Scott Barnes Is Launching 26 New Liquid Lip Colors Inspired by Jennifer Lopez

These lip glosses were made to be worn on camera, whether that's in a movie or a Zoom call.

Until a few months ago, if you asked makeup artist Scott Barnes where he lived, he would have said "American Airlines seat 1A." As Jennifer Lopez's makeup artist, Barnes's job normally involves jetting from movie sets to photo shoots to massive events like the Super Bowl. But lately, he's been home in Los Angeles. Of course, the need to stay home is a bummer for many reasons — but for his namesake beauty brand, it's been a major boon.

While working from home, Barnes perfected the upcoming launches that will accompany the well-received eye and face palettes he dropped late last year. Today, the fruit of that labor goes on sale in the form of 26 new liquid lip colors. The Lip Fetish Matte and Flossy Glossy collections each contain 13 glosses in their respective finishes, meant to be worn together or separately.

In homage to his history with Jennifer Lopez and his years of experience in film and TV makeup, Barnes designed the glosses to show up on beautifully camera. Between Zoom calls, Snapchat selfies, and the zillions of influencers posing for the 'gram, he may have locked onto a newly important reason to upgrade your gloss collection. "I've done seven films with Jennifer, so I understand what looks good on camera and in person," he says.

Barnes's background as a makeup artist went into every aspect of the design, from formula to delivery system. "For me, mattes are often cakey on the inside of your lip, or they turn white, or they look too thick," Barnes says. He worked "painstakingly" to get full coverage that was still matte but felt flexible and thin. Lip Fetish, the matte range, is packaged with a doe-foot applicator to smooth on pigment, and the Flossy Glossy glosses have an applicator brush that works better for topping over existing color.

The collection spans reds, pinks, browns, and more, but since this is Barnes, the most-anticipated shade is anything in the nude family. As J.Lo superfans know, Lopez is never one to turn down a nude lip, and Barnes is the man behind some of her most famous monochromatic makeup looks — which inspired this collection.

Princess Peach, a glossy pink-peach shade, recalls a specific, iconic peach gown that Lopez wears in in Maid in Manhattan. There's also Engagement, a blush nude shade that he created specifically to celebrate Lopez's engagement to Alex Rodriguez (perfect to help those of us not invited to the wedding feel a little closer to all that glam).

The finishing touch? The glosses are scented. "I told the lab I wanted them to smell like s'mores. Every time I use them, I feel like I'm at summer camp," he says.

So, the glosses will make you feel like Jennifer Lopez, look good on Zoom, and feel like you're making s'mores on vacation. As Barnes says, they're the "perfect formula."

All 26 lip gloss shades are available now for $26 each on scottbarnes.com.
